ProjectBlueSky.ca

Inspired by athletes, driven by students, Project Blue Sky is a
community-based grass-roots initiative. With the upcoming Vancouver
games in mind, our team is developing an online widget that will
reside on it’s own social network, that encourages enviro-conscious
teens, young adults and athletes to blog, upload photos and videos,
and share their stories with the world. The online widget can be
easily shared across many social networks, including Facebook,
which will contribute to its viral success.

MDM Rebrand & Website

Nadia Aly and Samer El-Nashar of team 1256 (and also graduate
students of the Masters of Digital Media Program) are re-energizing
the Centre for Digital Media at Great Northern Way through the
development of a new brand and web site. Using an Agile method of
working, Nadia and Samer are creating a unique approach to
collaborating, branding and web development. Their aim is to make
the website a dynamic portal to digital media. This participatory
and bold experience will be shared by current and prospective
students as well as industry and alumni.

Virtual Student Aid BC

The Visual/Virtual Student Aid team worked with Student Aid BC
to create six instructional videos that promote Student Aid BC’s
services and address a number of frequently asked questions posed
by high school and post-secondary school students. To appeal to
this tech-savvy audience, the videos were produced using an
interactive 3D engine technique known as a ‘machinima’ complete
with custom-built avatar actors.

This creative use of a machinima not only satisfies the “hip”
requirement, but dramatically reduces the cost compared to
traditional live action or animated film production. Once live on
the Student Aid BC web site, these machinimas will enable students
to more easily find information about topics such as applying for
loans and grants with Student Aid BC

MDM Social Media & PPC

The Masters of Digital Media Program has initiated a social
media project to strengthen its web presence and the school’s
online community, highlighting students’ work and all that’s
happening behind the scenes.

The project taps into the world of Web 2.0 tools, incorporating
the existing social networks that drive the technology
community.

The MDM social media space provides students and faculty the
opportunity to connect with visitors and share all that the Centre
for Digital Media has to offer.
